Rawle & Henderson Partner John C. McMeekin II was elected to the Executive Committee of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) at their 199th annual meeting on December 11th.  He joined the Society’s Board of Councilors in 2021.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2024 with a series of events throughout the year.  More information on membership, which is open to all, and about the Society can be found at https://www.portal.hsp.org/

Mr. McMeekin is continuing a tradition of community service begun by William Rawle, the founder of the law firm in 1783, and the founder of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in 1824. The law firm of Rawle & Henderson has been recognized by the American Bar Association as the oldest law firm in continuous practice in the United States.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is one of the nation’s largest archives of historical documents focusing on early American history, the history of Pennsylvania and two centuries of life including significant genealogic research material. It serves as Philadelphia’s Library of American History, with over 21 million manuscripts, books, and graphic images showcasing collections on regional and national history, and a manuscript collection renowned for its materials that span the 16th to the 21st centuries.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is a leading center for the documentation and study of ethnic communities and immigrant experiences in the United States in the 20th century. It is also one of the largest family history libraries in the nation, containing genealogical material from every state east of the Mississippi River.
