The new year has been paired with new data privacy legislation passing across the United States. The first to join the US privacy landscape in 2024 is New Jersey, following the Governor's signature of Senate Bill 332 on January 16th, and following closely is New Hampshire with Senate Bill 255 passing the Senate and being sent to the Governor for signature.

The New Jersey bill applies to controllers that conduct business in New Jersey or produce products or services that are targeted to residents of New Jersey, and will take effect on January 16, 2025. In New Hampshire, the privacy bill provides that individuals shall have the expectation of privacy in personal information, including content and usage, given to or held by third-party providers of information and services, and not available to the public.
