Industry-leader in law Reed Smith extends congratulations to Bree Buchanan, a trailblazing advisor on attorney well-being, for winning the Reed Smith Well-Being Award from the Institute for Well-Being in Law (IWIL).

Buchanan co-founded the National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being and co-authored "The Path to Well-Being: Practical Recommendations for Positive Change," a report that kick-started the well-being movement in the legal industry.

From 2010 to 2018, Buchanan served as director of the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program, where she provided recovery solutions for lawyers, law students and judges experiencing substance use or mental disorders.

Buchanan is presently senior advisor of Krill Strategies, providing counsel to legal employers on attorney well-being.

In April 2021, the Task Force founded the IWIL, which advocates for change in the legal profession to address mental health, substance abuse, addiction and stress. Its advocacy is derived from the belief that well-being is a core component of personal and professional success.

The IWIL named its “Award for Excellence in Well-Being in Law” after Reed Smith in 2021, after the firm was the first major donor to support the newly formed IWIL.

The award was announced at the IWIL’s annual lawyer wellness conference.
