PHILADELPHIA - Popeye's faces a discrimination lawsuit from a woman who was hired and fired while pregnant and had difficulties operating the drive-thru window.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and associated entities are facing a lawsuit filed by Rahjai Allen-Ponder Jan. 22 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The plaintiff alleges that she was subjected to sex discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, and retaliation during her employment at Popeyes. Allen-Ponder was employed as a Customer Service Representative from May 4, 2021, through May 11, 2021.

She claims that she faced difficulties at work due to her pregnancy and was eventually told by a manager that she could no longer work there because of her condition.

Allen-Ponder started working at a Popeye's on Grant Avenue in Philadelphia in the drive-thru window, though she was pregnant at the time. She says she had difficulty opening and closing it.

A manager told her later to clock out and because she could no longer work due to her pregnancy, the suit claims.

She complained and was ultimately threatened and terminated, the suit says.

Her lawyer is Marc Weinberg of Jenkintown.
