SCRANTON - A Lackawanna County lawsuit says a resident at Green Ridge Care Center ultimately lost a foot after being injured on a machine used to adjust air mattresses.

Michael Keating, represented by attorney Michael P. Perry from O'Malley & Perry, P.C., filed a lawsuit Jan. 12 against Green Ridge Care Center in the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County.

The complaint alleges that Keating was severely injured while residing at the care center when his foot got caught on a hook on a machine meant to adjust an air mattress. The injury developed into a hematoma and subsequently an ulcer, leading to the amputation of part of Keating's leg.

The plaintiff argues that the defendants knew or should have known about the dangerous condition of the bed and failed to properly control or handle it. Keating says in addition to physical pain and scarring, he has suffered from humiliation, trouble sleeping and nightmares.
