PITTSBURGH - The hydraulic vice on a saw amputated part of a man's finger, a new Pittsburgh lawsuit says.
A lawsuit was filed Feb. 21 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County by Jordan Sholtis and his wife Morgan Sholtis against HydMech Canada and Demmler Machinery, Inc.
The Sholtises are represented by attorneys Paul A. Tershel and Jarrod T. Takah from Tershel & Associates.
The complaint is related to heavy-duty industrial machinery allegedly designed, manufactured, distributed, or sold by the defendants and purchased by Jordan Sholtis' employer in June 2016.
The alleged incident occurred Feb. 17, 2023.
"While Plaintiff-Husband operated the subject saw, the subject saw's hydraulic vice closed on Plaintiff-Husband's left hand, crushed his left middle finger, and pinched off part of his left middle finger," the suit says.
The suit charges the defendants with defective design and violation of consumer protection laws.
In addition to physical injuries, the Sholtises allege post-traumatic marital distress and loss of shared parental experiences with Sholtis' newborn.
