PITTSBURH - A woman who uses a prosthetic leg is suing the company that employed her as a youth counselor, claiming retaliation for complaints about a lack of handicap parking spots and ramps at one school she worked at.
A lawsuit was filed March 6 against The Crossroads Foundation by Christina Kenney, represented by attorney Joshua P. Ward of J.P. Ward & Associates, LLC. The case was lodged in Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.
Kenney, who is a disabled individual with a prosthetic leg and arthritis, accuses the nonprofit organization of failing to provide her with necessary handicap accommodations.
She began working for the foundation as an Extra Mile Transition Counselor on March 2, 2020, providing services such as mentoring, tutoring, financial aid counseling, and education planning to high school students across three different schools.
Despite her qualifications and ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities, Kenney alleges that the defendant did not make suitable arrangements for her disability. St. Benedict's lacked handicap parking spots and ramps for her to use, the suit says.
The plaintiff claims that she made numerous complaints about this issue which were ignored by the foundation. Eventually, she was fired, allegedly in retaliation for her complaints.
