PITTSBURGH - A lawsuit now in Pittsburgh federal court says a chair broke while a man attending an AFL-CIO conference at the Omni William Penn Hotel was sitting in it.

A lawsuit was filed Feb. 22 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas against Omni Pittsburgh Corporation and Omni Hotels Management Corporation, collectively referred to as "Omni William Penn Hotel."

The plaintiff, Joseph M. Padavan, alleges that he suffered injuries due to a faulty banquet chair at the hotel during an AFL-CIO conference on March 29, 2022.

According to the complaint, Padavan was attending an awards ceremony when he fell violently to the ground after the back of his chair broke off without warning.

The suit states that an employee from Omni William Penn Hotel acknowledged the incident and mentioned previous similar occurrences with other banquet chairs.

The defendants recently removed the case to Pittsburgh federal court. The plaintiff is represented by Patrick Doyle of Wilkes-Barre.
