PITTSBURGH - A stray foul ball at a Pittsburgh Pirates game has led to a lawsuit against the team and Major League Baseball.

A lawsuit was filed May 16 in Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas by Kyleigh McQuaid against The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball, also known as Major League Baseball, The Pittsburgh Associates, LP, doing business as The Pittsburgh Pirates, the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

On June 17, 2022, McQuaid was seated in the stands between home plate and third base for a game against the San Francisco Giants. The area in which she was seated has been protected by netting in recent years.

But a foul ball went through the "flexible, lightweight screen" and hit McQuaid in the right eye, the suit says. She says she suffered orbital fractures, loss of sight, migraines, inability to concentrate and fatigue since then, among other problems.

Chad Shannon of Friday & Cox represents the plaintiff.
