PITTSBURGH - A class action lawsuit says U.S. Steel failed to pay employees for the time it took them to put on and take over protective equipment.

Chase Shaffer filed a class action lawsuit May 29 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas against United States Steel Corporation.

The complaint alleges that the company violated the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act (PMWA) by failing to compensate hourly employees for all required work activities at its Irvin Plant.

Specifically, Shaffer claims that workers were not paid for time spent on tasks such as donning and doffing personal protective equipment and walking to and from work locations within the plant.

The lawsuit seeks unpaid overtime wages, prejudgment interest, litigation costs, expenses, and attorney’s fees.
