READING - A Black woman alleges a long history of racist and discriminatory behavior while she worked for the Easton Area School District.

Plaintiff Melanie Wilson filed a lawsuit June 7 in Reading federal court against the Easton Area School District (EASD), alleging racial discrimination and harassment.

Wilson claims that EASD engaged in discriminatory practices throughout her 24-year tenure as a teacher, culminating in her constructive termination. The complaint alleges multiple instances where Wilson's safety concerns were ignored, including threats from a student who used racial slurs and made violent threats against her.

Despite these threats, EASD allegedly failed to take adequate measures to protect her. Wilson seeks back pay, front pay, punitive damages, compensatory damages, attorney fees, and other relief deemed proper by the court.

John Harrison of Broughal & DeVito represents the plaintiff.
