PHILADELPHIA - A recent federal lawsuit says cops in Philadelphia unjustly rushed a man while he was in a deli with friends, ultimately injuring his wrist and causing emotional damages.

William Johnson, a resident of Glenside, filed a lawsuit June 26 in federal court against the City of Philadelphia and unnamed police officers for alleged violations of his civil rights.

The complaint alleges an incident on February 24, 2024, during which Johnson claims he was forcefully arrested without probable cause while socializing at a deli.

Johnson asserts that the officers used excessive force, causing him severe physical pain and emotional distress. He further alleges that the City of Philadelphia has failed to properly train and discipline its police officers.

Johnson seeks compensatory and punitive damages for false arrest, false imprisonment, excessive force, assault and battery, invasion of privacy by false light, and other related claims.

Reginald Allen represents the plaintiff.
