PHILADELPHIA - The Wyomissing Area School District faces a lawsuit from a man it barred from schools for not wearing a mask in 2021.
Klint Neiman, a disabled father of two, filed a lawsuit Aug. 5 against the Wyomissing Area School District (WASD) and its former superintendent, Robert Scoboria.
Neiman alleges that he faced retaliation and discrimination due to his disability, which prevents him from wearing a mask. The complaint alleges multiple incidents during which Neiman was denied entry to school property, detained by police, and ultimately prosecuted for trespassing despite his medical exemption.
The lawsuit also claims that WASD failed to accommodate his disability and retaliated against him by denying employment opportunities after he filed discrimination charges. Neiman seeks damages exceeding $150,000 for lost wages, emotional distress, and damage to his reputation.
WASD has proposed a quid pro quo of Neiman withdrawing his Pennsylvania Human Rights Commission complaint to be allowed back on school property, the suit says.
