A couple is taking legal action against a major steel corporation, alleging negligence that led to severe injuries. Gary and Diana Daniels filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on August 18, 2022, naming United States Steel Corporation as the defendant.
According to the complaint, Gary Daniels was performing electrical work at the Mon Valley Works - Irvin Plant when he fell through a wooden staircase that collapsed beneath him. The plaintiffs claim that the defendants failed to maintain safe conditions on their premises, leading to Gary's fall and subsequent injuries. The Daniels allege that the defendants were aware or should have been aware of the dangerous condition of the staircase but failed to take appropriate measures to ensure safety.
The lawsuit details how Gary Daniels sustained multiple injuries, including lumbar spine and SI joint injuries, hip injuries with radiating pain, bilateral leg injuries, and other unspecified damages. The plaintiffs argue that these injuries are a direct result of the defendants' negligence in maintaining their property. They further contend that the defendants did not provide adequate warnings about the hazardous condition or offer an alternative safe route for workers.
The plaintiffs are seeking compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life’s pleasures, wage loss, and other related damages. Diana Daniels is also claiming damages for loss of companionship and services due to her husband's injuries. The couple demands judgment in excess of the mandatory arbitration limits of Allegheny County.
Representing the plaintiffs are attorneys Christopher M. Miller and Shawn D. Kressley from DelVecchio & Miller LLC. The case has been assigned Case ID No. GD-24- in the Civil Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County.
