About Our Fireside Chat
Our headlining program features Bill Baroni and Jesse Eisinger discussing the landscape of white-collar criminal prosecution and their perspectives on the presumption of innocence
A former Deputy Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Bill Baroni was convicted by a federal jury in the infamous New Jersey “Bridgegate” scandal. The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously overturned his conviction in United States v. Kelly, a landmark decision that fundamentally reshaped the breadth and scope of federal wire fraud prosecutions.
Jesse Eisinger, who writes for ProPublica, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of the book, "The Chickenshit Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives." The book explores policy changes at the Department of Justice that resulted in no senior executives being charged in connection with the subprime mortgage crisis of 2008.
Both Bill and Jesse were guests on our podcast, "The Presumption of Innocence." Learn more about them and their stories by listening here.
