The Pittsburgh office of Fox Rothschild has joined the Allegheny County Bar Foundation’s Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership to support the Protection From Abuse (PFA) Project.
A rotating group of volunteer attorneys will provide pro bono representation to domestic violence victims seeking protection from abuse orders. In collaboration with Neighborhood Legal Services (NLS), Fox attorneys will provide on-site assistance during the final hearing date, advocating and negotiating on behalf of clients.
“Over 4,000 Protection from Abuse petitions are filed annually in Allegheny County. Having an attorney to represent clients at their Final PFA hearing is invaluable to each individual client and the courts,” said Judy Hale, NLS’ Pro Bono Manager. “Petitioners need a calm voice, to be heard, and to receive legal counsel for their case. Neighborhood Legal Services handles the majority of these cases, and always needs more volunteers. We are thrilled to welcome Fox Rothschild to our team of dedicated volunteers. Fox Rothschild’s commitment to representing survivors of domestic abuse in Protection from Abuse hearings is a powerful step toward ensuring justice and safety for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
“During the pandemic, Allegheny County saw an astonishing increase in PFA petitions, despite the number of available pro bono attorneys decreasing dramatically,” said Fox Partner Kate Stoy, who is leading the initiative for Fox. “There is a genuine need in our region to assist those suffering from domestic violence to navigate the judicial system and protect themselves and their families.”
Fox is committed to giving back to the communities where our attorneys live and work, through charitable efforts and providing free legal services to individuals, nonprofits and organizations.
Recently, the firm launched Generation Fox, which puts youth front and center in the firm’s charitable giving, pro bono work and community involvement.
