Bonnie W. David L’13 was unanimously confirmed for a 12-year term as Vice Chancellor of the Delaware Court of Chancery, following nearly two years of service as a Magistrate. She succeeds her mentor, Vice Chancellor Sam Glasscock III, who retired in January 2025.

Before joining the Court, David practiced at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, focusing on deal litigation, corporate statutory proceedings, and contract disputes.

Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick praised both David and Glasscock, noting their sound judgment, moral compass, and dedication to Delaware’s legal community. “Each are brilliant and principled people,” McCormick said. “I am personally grateful for their willingness to serve the State of Delaware.”

David, a cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, also served as Senior Editor of the Law Review. She earned her B.A. summa cum laude from Boston University and clerked for Vice Chancellor Glasscock immediately after law school.

Glasscock described David as possessing “great common sense” and an instinctive grasp of the trial judge’s duties. Known for her compassion and respect for litigants, she is also deeply involved in the Delaware legal community, serving as a director of the Delaware Bar Foundation, treasurer of the Historical Society for the Delaware Court of Chancery, and an associate member of the Delaware Supreme Court’s Board of Bar Examiners.

David joins fellow Penn Carey Law alumni Lori Will L’09 and Morgan Zurn L’06 as Vice Chancellors, continuing the tradition of strong legal leadership in Delaware’s Court of Chancery. The Court plays a critical role in Delaware’s economy, handling corporate disputes and serving as the legal home for over 1 million businesses, including half of all publicly traded companies and more than two-thirds of Fortune 500 companies.
