A woman is taking legal action against a prominent casino and a mat company, alleging negligence that led to her serious injuries. On March 10, 2025, Carole Trunkwalter Bewley filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, against Harrah's Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack and Health Mats Co. The lawsuit stems from an incident on September 7, 2023, when Bewley claims she tripped over an improperly positioned mat at the casino's entrance.

According to the complaint filed by attorney Kevin J. Riley of Lundy Law LLP, Carole Trunkwalter Bewley accuses Harrah's Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack and Health Mats Co. of failing to maintain safe premises. The lawsuit states that both defendants had control over the area where the accident occurred and were responsible for ensuring it was free from hazards. Bewley alleges that they failed in their duty to warn about or rectify the dangerous condition posed by the mat, which resulted in her tripping and sustaining severe injuries including cuts, knee injuries, arm injuries, torso injuries, and internal injuries.

The complaint further elaborates on how these injuries have caused Bewley significant physical pain and mental anguish. She asserts that due to these injuries, she has been unable to perform her usual duties and has incurred substantial medical expenses. The lawsuit claims that both defendants acted negligently by not providing adequate warnings about the hazardous condition or taking steps to correct it. It also accuses Health Mats Co. specifically of failing to ensure their product met safety standards.

Bewley's legal action seeks judgment against both Harrah's Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack and Health Mats Co., individually as well as jointly or severally liable for damages exceeding $50,000 plus interest and other reliefs permitted by law. She argues that this amount is justified given the severity of her injuries and the impact on her life.

The case underscores issues surrounding premises liability and product safety standards within commercial spaces like casinos where patrons' safety should be paramount. As this legal battle unfolds in Delaware County’s Court of Common Pleas under Case ID CV2025002112.

Representing Carole Trunkwalter Bewley is attorney Kevin J. Riley from Lundy Law LLP while details regarding defense counsel remain undisclosed at this stage pending official court proceedings initiation through notices served upon named defendants: Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack located at Chester PA alongside co-defendant Health Mats Company based out nearby locale within same jurisdictional bounds.
