Webp award

Trophy | In collaboration with Katelyn Perry

Ballard Spahr Partner Laurel D. Roglen, an experienced litigator and member of the firm’s Bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights, and Restructuring Group, has been selected by the Philadelphia Business Journal for its 2025 list of 40 Under 40 honorees.

This accolade recognizes up-and-coming leaders in a wide range of industries who have not only achieved individual success in their respective fields, but who also dedicate time and effort toward improving the Philadelphia community as a whole. Nearly 400 candidates were considered for the honor this year, making the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2025 list the most competitive to date.

The Business Journal will celebrate this year’s honorees at an event May 15 and in a special print edition May 16.

Laurel represents corporate clients in bankruptcies, workouts, and restructurings, with a particular focus on high-profile, nationwide retail bankruptcy cases. She regularly counsels and negotiates on behalf of clients in these matters and has experience in bankruptcy-related litigation and issues at the intersection of bankruptcy law and environmental law. Laurel is representing the City of Chester in its ongoing Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy.

Laurel’s commitment to pro bono work includes representing an incarcerated individual in a case concerning mistreatment during custodial searches in a Delaware state prison. Initiated in 2022, her advocacy contributed to a comprehensive revision of the Delaware Department of Corrections’ inmate search policy, which took effect statewide in 2024 and includes updated protocols for the treatment of transgender individuals.

In addition, Laurel is dedicated to bettering her community as an active member of organizations such as the Delaware State Bar Association, where she serves as Vice President of the Bankruptcy Section. Laurel also is a member of the Local Rules Committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, and frequently speaks at Turnaround Management Association and American Bankruptcy Institute Events.
