Sales professional alleges age, gender discrimination in firing

A Downingtown man has sued a food product manufacturer, alleging violation of employment law.

Jeffrey A. Snodgrass filed a lawsuit April 24 in U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Land O’Lakes Inc., doing business as Purina Mills, doing business as Purina Animal Nutrition, and Purina Animal Nutrition c/o The Corporation Trust Company, alleging unlawful termination in 2013.

According to the complaint, the 53-year-old plaintiff was employed as a regional salesman by Land O'Lakes in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, for approximately 1.3 years when he was terminated April 8, 2013, and replaced with a younger female candidate with less experience and fewer qualifications than himself.

The suit says the company was attempting to recruit and hire females in the six-month period prior to his termination and Snodgrass was fired due to his gender and age. The plaintiff holds the defendant liable for his resultant emotional pain and suffering, mental anguish, inconvenience and loss of enjoyment of life. He says Purina Mills willfully violated his rights.

Snodgrass seeks back pay, front pay or reinstatement, compensatory damages, attorney and expert witness fees and court costs. He is represented by attorney Edward Sweeny of Wusinich & Brogan in Downingtown.

U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania case number: 2:15-cv-02198-LDD.
