A Philadelphia woman who slipped on the emergency room floor at Albert Einstein Medical Center is suing the facility for injuries she sustained because of her spill.
Attorney Marc Vogin, of the Philadelphia firm Klein, Vogin & Gold, filed the premises liability lawsuit June 15 at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on behalf of Lakeya Williams.
The defendants listed are Albert Einstein Medical Center and Albert Einstein Health Network.
According to the slip-and-fall complaint, Williams was visiting the hospital’s emergency room around March 1, 2010, when she slipped on liquid or “another slippery substance” on the floor of the emergency room, causing her to fall down and sustain various physical injuries.
The lawsuit accuses the hospital of carelessness, negligence and recklessness for allowing a hazardous condition to exist on the property, and for failing to place proper protections and safeguards to protect the plaintiff and other business invitees of the hospital.
As a result of the accident, Williams suffered shoulder injuries, headaches and a shock to her nervous system, the suit states. She has also suffered mental anguish and humiliation.
Williams has incurred various medical expenses due to her fall, and she has been unable to attend to her usual duties and occupation, the lawsuit claims.
Williams seeks judgment against the hospital in an amount not in excess of $50,000, plus related costs.
The non-jury matter is scheduled for arbitration in mid February.
