A Ridley Park, Pa. man has filed a mass tort lawsuit against asbestos manufacturers and distributors alleging the mesothelioma he was diagnosed with in April 2011 is directly related to his work history.
The claim, which was filed as a short-form complaint in the asbestos master docket in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court, alleges that 78-year-old John Begley’s mesothelioma is a result of his having worked in an industry that dealt in asbestos.
The complaint does state that Begley had a pack-a-day cigarette habit for a 10-year period from 1975 to 1985.
The lawsuit names more than 50 defendants, which include, but are not limited to, B.P. America, Brand Insulations, Inc. and Borg Warner Corp.
The lawsuit was filed by Philadelphia attorney Steven J. Cooperstein of the firm Brookman, Rosenberg, Brown & Sandler.
A jury trial has been demanded.
The case number is 110603103.
