Dog attack leads to personal injury lawsuit

The parent of a child who got bitten by a dog while visiting a friend’s house is suing the owner of the animal for injuries her son sustained because of the incident.

Attorneys Christy Adams and Cary R. Breon, of the Adams Renzi Law firm, filed the personal injury lawsuit July 1 at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Court on behalf of Philadelphia resident Lakisha Griffin.

According to the civil complaint, Griffin’s son, Skyheim Griffin, was at the Philadelphia home of a friend when, suddenly and without warning, he was attacked by a dog owned by defendant Yaritza Carrion.

The lawsuit states that following the incident, Carrion told the victims that the animal is trained to attack people wearing anything on their heads, including hats and hoods.

Also named as defendants in the lawsuit are Azaard and Sohaila Khatri, the owners of the home where the alleged attack occurred.

The lawsuit states that the property owners should have known that their tenant’s dog had “vicious propensities,” and that the accident resulted solely from the negligence and carelessness of all the defendants.

As a result of the dog attack, Skyheim Griffin, whose age is not listed in the lawsuit, suffered injuries such as lacerations and mutilation to the face and chin, lacerations to the leg, contusions, lacerations and abrasions over various portions of the body and post-traumatic anxiety and depression, the suit claims.

The minor plaintiff has had to undergo surgeries due to his injuries, the suit states, and he is expected to suffer mental anguish, humiliation and permanent scarring as a result of the dog bite, the lawsuit states.

The plaintiff’s are seeking judgment in an amount in excess of $50,000. A jury trial has been demanded.

The case number is 110603306.
