A 57-year-old Chester County man has filed an asbestos mass tort claim against companies engaged in the manufacture of asbestos-containing products, alleging he sustained injury due to his exposure to the fiber during his working years.
Philadelphia attorney Steven J. Cooperstein, of the firm Brookman, Rosenberg, Brown & Sandler, filed suit June 13 at Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas on behalf of Lower Oxford, Pa. resident Patrick Gendreau and his wife, Denise.
The defendants in the complaint include, but are not limited to, Allied Signal Inc., Certainteed Corp., General Electric Co., John Crane Inc., Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and Union Carbide Corp.
The lawsuit claims that in November 2011, Patrick Gendreau was diagnosed with asbestos-related pleural disease with restriction and reduced diffusion, an injury the plaintiff claims was caused by his exposure to asbestos beginning back in the early 1970s when Gendreau served in the United States Navy.
Gendreau’s work history also included jobs as a loss prevention officer at Strawbridge & Clothier, and as a boiler operator at PNSY and a ship system engineer at the Carderock Division Naval Surface Warfare Center.
The lawsuit, which was filed as a short-form complaint at Common Pleas Court’s master asbestos litigation, seeks damages as set forth in the master complaint.
