Phila. woman sues Germantown Cab Co. for injuries relating to vehicle accident

A Philadelphia woman who alleges she sustained bodily injuries after the taxicab in which

she was riding became involved in an accident has filed a lawsuit against the cab company in state court.

Bala Cynwyd, Pa. attorney Richard K. Teitell filed the injury claim June 26 at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on behalf of Shakia Lloyd.

The defendants named in the complaint are Germantown Cab Co., Pinelands Insurance Co. and NTA Associates LLC.

The lawsuit states that Lloyd was a passenger in a cab owned by the defendant back on March 21, 2011, when, while the vehicle was traveling in the area of Wister Street and Belfield Avenue in Philadelphia between 5:30 and 6 in the morning, it crashed into a fence or other object after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

As a result of the accident, Lloyd sustained a variety of bodily injuries, including cervical and lumbosacral sprain and strain, post-traumatic cephalgia, vertigo and right L5 radiculopathy, the lawsuit states.

Lloyd has incurred various sums relating to the medical treatment of her injuries, the suit claims, and she has suffered severe physical pain, mental anguish and humiliation as a result of the vehicle accident.

The lawsuit accuses the defendants of negligence for operating a vehicle at an excessive rate of speed, failing to have a vehicle under proper control, and otherwise failing to exercise due and adequate care under the circumstances.

The lawsuit contains counts of negligence, negligent entrustment/supervision, breach of contract, bad faith, and violations of unfair trade practices and consumer protection laws.

For each of the counts listed in the complaint, Lloyd seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus interest, litigation costs, attorney’s fees and other court relief.
