A trial judge from suburban Philadelphia was unanimously confirmed by

the Pennsylvania Senate Tuesday to fill a seat on a state appellate court.

Patricia H. Jenkins, who currently serves as a judge on the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas, was confirmed to serve on Pennsylvania’s Superior Court, according to Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, a Republican representing Pennsylvania’s 9^th Senatorial District.

Pileggi, whose district is situated in Delaware County, said Jenkins is a jurist who is known for her “independence and integrity.”

“There’s no question she will be an outstanding addition to the Superior Court,” Pileggi said in a statement. “Governor Corbett made an excellent choice when he nominated her to fill this vacancy.”

Corbett nominated Jenkins to sit on the Superior Court late last month, as previously reported by the Pennsylvania Record.

Jenkins has been sitting on the Delaware County Common Pleas Court since the early 1990s.

She was initially appointed to fill an unexpired term but later elected to serve a full, 10-year term in November 1993, according to Pileggi’s office.

The judge was retained for a second term on Common Pleas Court a decade later.

“Judge Jenkins is respected and well-liked because she is practical, sensible and straight-forward,” Jonathan Peri, incoming president of the Delaware County Bar Association, said in a statement. “Having practiced in front of her directly, I can say with confidence that she will make an excellent Superior Court Judge.”

In a statement issued following her nomination by the governor last month, Jenkins said she was honored to be chosen a statewide appellate court judge.

Jenkins, who graduated from Penn State University’s Dickinson School of Law, grew up in Media, Delaware County, a suburb of Philadelphia.

The jurist, who holds a master’s degree of Laws in Taxation from the Villanova Law School, has worked in private practice, and also as the solicitor for the Delaware County Department of Human Services.

Jenkins also teaches paralegal studies at both Widener and Villanova Universities, where she focuses on litigation and property law, according to a professional biography.

Jenkins will fill the vacancy on the Superior Court created when former President Judge Correale Stevens moved over to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
