PHILADELPHIA - A blind California woman is suing a scaffolding company over serious injuries that she claims resulted from an illegally parked vehicle.

Ivonne Mosquera Schmidt of Chula Vista, Calif., filed suit on July 2 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the Philadelphia company Superior Scaffold Services over allegations of negligence.

According to the filing, the plaintiff, who is legally blind, struck a metal extension attached to the defendant’s illegally parked truck on a sidewalk in Philadelphia in August 2013.

She claims that the defendant obstructed pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk and caused her to suffer permanent injuries to the bones, muscles, nerves, tendons, tissues, discs and blood vessels.

The plaintiff is seeking a judgment in her favor for an unspecified amount of damages relating to medical expenses. The plaintiff is being represented by Steven Schatz of the law firm Master Weinstein Schatz and Moyer.

U.S. District Court of Eastern Pennsylvania case number 2:15-cv-03701-PD.
