Former restaurant manager sues after complaint of pay inequality

Middledistrict

HARRISBURG - A Cumberland County woman is suing a restaurant owner over allegations of gender discrimination.

Vickie Weitkamp filed a lawsuit July 6 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Kim Gadjo, franchise owner and president JKG Restaurants, which operates a Moe’s Southwestern Grill.

According to the filing, the plaintiff started working as a general manager for JKG in 2014 but after she was hired, the defendant did not pay the advertised salary of $45,000 to $50,000 per year, even though a male general manager was being paid at the advertised salary.

The filing claims that the plaintiff was terminated shortly after complaining to management about pay inequality. At the time of her complaint, she was told she would be paid a $32,000 salary.

The plaintiff seeks a judgement in her favor for compensatory and punitive damages, attorney’s fees and other related costs. She is being represented by Larry Weisberg of the Law Firm McCarthy Weisberg and Cummings P.C.
