Manager alleges Holiday Inn Express practiced ageism

A 64-year-old woman is suing several companies, alleging age discrimination in a job termination.

Joanne McNally filed a lawsuit July 27 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against 1329 Bristol Pike Associates and PHLNS, both doing business as Holiday Inn Express, and/or Growth Properties Management, and Growth Properties Investment Managers Inc., doing business as Holiday Inn Express and Growth Properties Management, all of Bensalem, alleging she was systematically discriminated against and fired because of her age.

According to the complaint, McNally worked for the defendants for 17 years, the last seven at the Bristol Pike location in Bensalem. The suit states toward the time of her termination, the plaintiff began to experience a hostile work environment, including demotion and salary reduction that allegedly were not applied to younger workers.

The lawsuit says McNally was abruptly terminated with no explanation and that one other older worker was similarly treated. She also says and she had heard an overt comment from a supervisor about not wanting older people in management positions.

The plaintiff alleges violation of the ADEA and PHRA.

McNally seeks liquidated and punitive damages, back and front pay with benefits, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Ari Karpf of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti in Bensalem.
