An employee of company that operates a traveling amusement park is suing the buyers and sellers of used amusement rides, alleging injuries suffered while breaking down what he says was a defective ride at the Greene County fairgrounds.
Archie E. Lidey III, of Riverview, Fla., filed a lawsuit Aug. 3 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Luehrs’ Ideal Rides, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on or about Aug. 4, 2013, Lidey's right hand and arm, up to his right elbow were de-gloved and crushed in the apparatus of a ``Spring Ride,” which moves its seated riders in a horizontal platform called a gondola up and down along an upright tower called a column at the Greene County fairgrounds in Waynesburg.
The suit says Lidey's right arm was caught in the pinch point between the gondola and the column, when a co-worker accidentally tripped over the power cord that supplied power to the ride.
Lidey seeks damages for past, present and future lost earnings capacity for injuries that limit his mobility. He also seeks compensation for past, present and future expenses, as well as for scarring and disfigurement. He is represented by attorneys Jon D. Rubinstein and Joel S. Rosen of Cohen, Placitella & Roth in Philadelphia, and Dennis Rafferty in Greensburg.
