An insurance company is suing a spray foam manufacturer for an allegedly faulty product it claims caused a fire.

Unitrin Auto and Home Insurance Co. filed a lawsuit Oct. 27 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Clayton Corp. of Delaware, doing business as Convenience Products, citing negligence and strict liability.

Unitrin alleges on March 22, its customer, Michael Jason Barrick of New Bloomfield, was using Clayton's

foam insulation canisters, foam insulation applicator, nozzles, chemical resistant gloves, assembly wrench, “O” ring and petroleum jelly to insulate the attic of his property when the products began to smoke and caught fire. Unitrin claims they held an insurance police coverage agreement with Barrick and had to pay $443,651.13 due to damage of their property because of faulty products.

Unitrin is seeking an amount of more than $400,000 for damages. Unitrin is represented by Peter G. Rozzi of Philadelphia.
