A Cranberry Township woman is suing her former employer claiming the trucking company terminated her because of her age and gender.

Sandy Panzero filed a lawsuit Oct. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Modern People LCC, doing business as Modern Transportation, claiming she was discriminated against and terminated based on her age and gender.

Panzero, who is older than 40, claims that while employed with the trucking company she was regularly in the presence of vulgarity and hostility brought on by younger employees. Panzero alleges that during one such instance in April 2011 she cursed and was quickly reprimanded, while the younger male counterpart that frightened her and caused her to curse was not. Panzero alleges that when she complained about discrimination she was terminated for engaging in "workplace violence." Panzero claims before this instance she had witnessed several such instances with various co-workers where no one was disciplined.

Panzero claims she lost valuable wages and benefits because of age and gender discrimination. She is seeking all available relief, compensatory and punitive damages, costs and fees and attorney fees and any and all other relief the court orders. Panzero is represented by Erik M. Yurkovich of Wexford.
