Woman sues West Chester University alleging discrimination

Discrimination

PHILADELPHIA – A Thorndale woman filed a lawsuit against West Chester University alleging that she was discriminated against on the basis of race and sex.

Paige Carey filed a lawsuit against the university on Oct. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania citing a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The lawsuit claims that the university staff intentionally discriminated against Carey as a result of her race and sex, and allegedly denied her the benefits of the contractual relationship she entered with the university.

She is seeking to be awarded actual damages, according to the lawsuit, as well as damages for the pain, suffering and humiliation caused by the actions and inactions of the university. She is also seeking punitive damages, in an amount the court deems appropriate.

Carey is represented by Thomas M. Kolman, Wayne A. Ely and W. Charles Sipio of Kolman Ely, P.C. in Penndel.
