Employee alleges 20/20 Companies' gender discrimination caused her firing

Discrimination

PITTSBURGH — A Monroeville woman is suing a Pittsburgh company, alleging her termination was due to her gender.

Kimberly Lewis filed a complaint June 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against 20/20 Companies of Pittsburgh, also known as 20/20 Communications, alleging gender discrimination.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 2, 2010, Lewis was involved in a car accident that rendered her unable to work until August 2010. Due to her injury, the suit says, the plaintiff was only able to work in her role as general manager for 40 hours each week, and, upon her return to work, she was harassed and eventually terminated because of her gender.

The lawsuit states her position was advertised and offered to other employees, and she was put on leave. Meanwhile, the defendant fought her worker's compensation claims, the suit says.

On Dec. 5, 2011, the plaintiff was terminated, the suit states, and she was replaced by a male.

Lewis seeks damages for lost wages and benefits, punitive damages and legal fees. plus a jury trial. She is represented by attorney Holly L. Stabile of Brant & Associates PC in Canonsburg.
