Customer blames Wal-Mart for slip-and-fall injuries

Walmart

HARRISBURG — A Stewartstown woman is suing Walmart, alleging its negligence caused her to slip, fall, and injure herself while getting a shopping cart.

Kathleen Ann Collie filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Wal-Mart Stores East LP, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on April 9, 2015, Collie was shopping at the Walmart store in the Shrewsbury Commons Shopping Center when she walked into a dimly lit room to get a shopping cart. The suit says she was caused to slip and fall from a protruding object resembling an angled curb on the floor, which was used to direct, control and manage the carts in the cart room.

The plaintiff alleges the accident and her subsequent injuries were caused from the defendant’s failure to exercise ordinary care and provide customers with a safe environment.

Collie seeks damages of more than $75,000, pre and post-judgment interest, attorney fees, delay damages, costs and a trial by jury. She is represented by attorney Gregory W. Bair II of York.
