Ex-worker accuses Jetson Specialty Marketing of harassment

Sexualharassment

PHILADELPHIA — A Brenigsville woman is suing a Kutztown company, alleging harassment and retaliation led to her wrongful termination.

Lamia Meky filed a lawsuit March 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Jetson Specialty Marketing Services Inc., alleging violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to her complaint, Meky was employed with Jetson Specialty Marketing for approximately 1 1/2 years as a machine operator. The suit says while employed, she was subjected to continuous unwelcome sexual gestures by her supervisor. Meky reported the issue but alleges that instead of handling the matter, she was further subjected to retaliation.

Eventually the offending supervisor quit his job with Jetson, the lawsuit states, but the retaliation against Meky continued until she was terminated in March 2015, shortly after requesting FMLA leave to take care of her sick mother.

Meky seeks compensatory pay and benefits, actual damages, punitive and/or liquidated damages, costs, attorney fees and a trial by jury. She is represented by attorney Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti PC.
