Card dealer sues casino for discriminatory termination claim

Arthritis

PHILADELPHIA — A former card dealer at Valley Forge Casino Resort is suing the casino, alleging he was discriminated against and terminated for his medical disability.

William Kramer filed a lawsuit on March 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Valley Forge Casino Resort, Valley Forge Colonial Limited Corporation, and Valley Forge Convention Partners LP, citing violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, Kramer was employed by the defendant for three years, working as a card dealer. The plaintiff allegedly has and continues to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, which required him to acquire intermittent leave under the FMLA during the last two years of his employment.

The plaintiff claims that after he utilized the FMLA leave, the defendant’s management treated him in a hostile and retaliatory manner. The behavior allegedly continued until he was suspended and then terminated in June 2015, in violation of the FMLA and the ADA, the suit says.

Kramer seeks compensation for all lost pay and benefits, punitive and/or liquidated damages, costs, and attorney’s fees. He is represented by Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti PC, in Bensalem, PA.
