PHILADELPHIA – A salesperson is suing his former employer over a claim that he was fired because of his age.
Stephen Hoare filed a lawsuit April 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Chata Biosystems L.L.C., alleging a violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
According to the claim, Hoare, 57, was hired in a sales position in September 2009 and performed his job excellently. Still, according to the lawsuit, management and Chata’s owners made age-based statements commenting that Hoare was ``ready for retirement.”
According to the claim, Hoare was fired Nov. 6, 2014 and replaced by a salesperson who was approximately 30 years old.
Hoare, who is demanding a jury trial, is seeking back pay, front pay, liquidated damages and attorney’s fees.
Hoare is being represented by attorney John S. Harrison of Broughal & DeVito L.L.P. of Bethlehem.
