PITTSBURGH — A 65-year-old former benefits administrator is suing Warren General Hospital, a health care facility, citing alleged age discrimination in her termination.

Karen I. Hulings filed a complaint on April 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Warren General Hospital, alleging that the health care facility violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Jan. 5, 2015, HR director Stacy Ryan repeatedly told the plaintiff that she would be laid off because she was the oldest in the department and she was about to retire soon. The plaintiff allegedly told Ryan that she had no plans of retiring anytime soon. On May 26, 2015, she received a letter confirming her termination, she claims. The plaintiff holds Warren General Hospital responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated her employment and discriminated against her because of her age.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant to provide all appropriate remedies under the ADEA and the PHRA, including back pay, front pay, compensatory damages, punitive damages and attorney’s fees and costs. She is represented by Michael J. Bruzzese of Bruzzese & Temple in Pittsburgh.
