Woman claims discrimination by former employer

Wrongful term 13

PHILADELPHIA — An African-American woman is suing St. Lukes Physician Group, Inc., a former employer, citing alleged racial discrimination, disparate treatment and wrongful termination.

Saynmoh Barwon filed a complaint on April 21 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against St. Lukes Physician Group Inc., alleging that the former employer allegedly violated the Civil Rights Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in or around February or March 2013, she and another woman were engaged in an altercation at work, and the other woman purportedly made a racially charged remark about getting the plaintiff fired.

The suit says the plaintiff immediately reported the comment to her supervisor, who verbally warned her for the altercation at work. One week after she reported the incident and until her termination on April 15, 2013, her supervisor issued two written warnings for alleged violation of company policy, and the other woman was not terminated, the suit says. The plaintiff holds St. Lukes Physician Group Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly treated her disparately, discriminated against her and terminated her from employment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for all damages, including emotional pain and suffering, attorney's fees, costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and for such other relief as the court deems just and proper. She is represented by David M. Koller of Koller Law LLC in Philadelphia.
