HARRISBURG — A man is suing the federal government, saying he was injured due to the actions of a United States Postal Service employee.

Richard Werner filed a complaint on May 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against the United States of America, alleging that a Postal Service employee accidentally struck him with a heavy wire cage.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 24, 2014, he sustained injuries to his body when a wire cage smashed against the side wall of a trailer, striking his knee. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because the postal employee allegedly failed to ensure the safety of the plaintiff by checking if there was anyone else with him in the trailer while transporting wire cages.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $75,000 plus court costs. He is represented by Sean P. McDonough of Dougherty, Leventhal & Price, L.L.P. in Moosic.
