PHILADELPHIA — A consumer is suing Gree USA Inc., Gree Electric Appliances Inc. of Zhuhai, Gree USA Sales Ltd. and Hong Kong Gree Electric Appliances Sales Co. Ltd., citing alleged design defect, liability and product liability in connection with a fire at his property.

Ibrahim Saloum filed a complaint on June 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants, alleging that they manufactured defective products and sold them to consumers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 23, 2014, he suffered damages as a result of his property catching fire due to a defective humidifier he purchased. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to carefully inspect each product before it was sold to make sure that each product was free of any defect that could cause an accident.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $75,000, treble damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Shane Fulton and John Popilock of Law Offices of Robert A. Stutman, P.C. in Fort Washington.
