Woman says she is due long-term disability benefits

Insurance 02

PITTSBURGH — A woman is suing Sun Life Financial, an insurance firm, citing alleged breach of contract and violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Carole Scala filed a complaint on July 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Sun Life Financial, alleging that the insurance firm wrongly denied her claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled and filed for long-term disability benefits but was denied. The plaintiff holds Sun Life Financial responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to deny disability benefits to the plaintiff despite several appeals and adequate medical documents to support her claim.

The plaintiff seeks all relief she is entitled to, interest court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Brian Patrick Bronson of QuatriniRafferty, P.C. in Greensburg.
