Woman says disability benefits were improperly denied

Insurance 11

PITTSBURGH — A woman is suing Standard Insurance Company, citing alleged breach of contract and violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Jami Gandy filed a complaint on July 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Standard Insurance Company, alleging that the insurer improperly denied the plaintiff's claim for long-term disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled due to several medical conditions including an acute respiratory arrest and made a claim for disability benefits, but was denied. The plaintiff holds Standard Insurance Company responsible because the defendant allegedly denied her claim for disability benefits based on an incorrect assertion of a pre-existing medical condition.

The plaintiff seeks all relief she is due, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Brian Patrick Bronson of QuatriniRafferty, P.C. in Greensburg.
