Woman alleges debt collector violated law

Phone 05

PHILADELPHIA — A woman has filed a class-action lawsuit against GC Services Limited Partnership, a debt collector, citing alleged violation of telephone harassment statutes.

Ebony Bellamy filed a complaint on July 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against GC Services Limited Partnership, alleging that the debt collector improperly contacted the plaintiff several times in an attempt to collect an alleged debt.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, starting in February, she was contacted several times on her cellular telephone despite her request for the calls to stop. The plaintiff holds GC Services Limited Partnership responsible because the defendant allegedly placed several calls to the plaintiff's cellular phone using an automatic dialing system.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks $500 in statutory damages for each and every violation and $1,500 in treble damages for each and every violation. She is represented by Cynthia Z. Levin of Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman, P.C. in King of Prussia.
