HARRISBURG – A Milford man alleges his short-term disability benefits were wrongfully terminated after a surgery.
John E. Hallman filed a complaint on July 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April 14, 2015, he underwent a knee replacement surgery and was unable to work. Plaintiff alleges he applied for and received short-term disability benefits, but that the defendant terminated the benefits in October 2015. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant's denial of the benefits is allegedly in contradiction to the language of its policy.
The plaintiff seeks order to pay plaintiff short-term disability benefits from Oct. 21, 2015, to April 14, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Kevin M. Conaboy of Abrahamsen, Conaboy & Abrahamsen PC in Scranton.
