Woman says disability benefits were wrongly denied

Insurance 08

HARRISBURG — A woman is suing Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, claiming the insurer wrongly denied her long-term disability benefits.

Linda Griffiths filed a complaint on Aug. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, alleging that the insurer violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in September 2014 she became disabled and initially received disability benefits until they were terminated in October 2015. The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Company responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to deny further payments to the plaintiff for disability benefits despite her disability under the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks long-term disability benefits, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Joshua Borer and Edwin A. Abrahamsen Jr. of Abrahamsen, Conaboy & Abrahamsen, P.C. in Scranton.
