Woman says Unum Life Insurance Company of America improperly denied benefits

Insurance 06

PITTSBURGH -- A woman is suing an insurer, citing alleged breach of contract.

Mary Ryan filed a complaint on Oct. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Unum Life Insurance Company of America, alleging the insurance firm improperly denied her claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2013 she became disabled due to a right knee replacement that did not fully heal, and applied for disability benefits but was denied. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Company of America responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to deny her claim for disability benefits despite her being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks all relief she is entitled to plus interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants.

She is represented by Brian Patrick Bronson of QuatriniRafferty PC in Greensburg.
