PITTSBURGH — A man is suing General Motors LLC; Riehle Chevrolet Inc., d/b/a Star Chevrolet and Star Chevrolet-Nissan-Volvo; and Timbrook Automotive Inc., t/a Timbrook Chevrolet, alleging product liability.

James A. Brady filed a complaint on Oct. 11 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against the defendants, alleging that they sold him a defective vehicle with a flaw that led him to lose a leg.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 5, 2014, he suffered severe physical injuries when he placed his Chevrolet Silverado pickup in park and exited it to unhitch a trailer. He claims the truck shifted into neutral, rolled back and crushed his leg between the truck and trailer, ultimately leading to the amputation of his leg.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to properly inspect the vehicle the plaintiff purchased for any defects and to make sure that the vehicle wouldn't enter the "neutral" position while idling.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000. He is represented by Shanin Specter and Michael A. Trunk of Kline & Specter, P.C. in Philadelpia.
