Former Graphic Packaging International alleges wrongful termination

PHILADELPHIA — A former employee of Graphic Packaging International Inc. is suing the company and his former labor union, the United Steel, Paper, Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Services Workers International Union (USW) AFL-CIO, CLC Local Union #807, alleging breach of contract and wrongful termination.

Michael D. Smokowicz filed a complaint on Nov. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants, alleging that he was wrongfully fired.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered damages from being terminated from his employment. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly safeguarding his rights under a "last chance agreement."

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants for compensatory damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. He is represented by Charles W. Campbell in Norristown.
